Training Introduction

Effective child protection depends not only on procedures but also on the skills, knowledge and judgement of all staff involved with children and/or their families, plus their ability to work together co-operatively. To this end the GSCB has developed a Training Strategy for all agencies and recommends that any staff involved, including practitioners, supervisors and managers, attend at least a basic awareness course in child protection, provided either by the GSCB or their agency. Staff with lead roles in child protection, or who have a statutory responsibility, once they have completed basic training, will require more specialised training in order to carry out their work.

The Child Protection Procedures have more details on GSCB Training requirements for educational settings.
