Safeguarding Children and Young People with Disabilities - Two-day course
Safeguarding Children and Young People with Disabilities - Two-day course
Available UK evidence on the extent of abuse among disabled children and young people suggests that they are at increased risk of abuse and that the presence of multiple disabilities appears to increase the risk of both abuse and neglect.
Disabled children represent 3% of the total children's population; and it is estimated that they are 3-4 times as likely to experience abuse than children without an impairment.
Disabled children and young people may be especially vulnerable to abuse for a number of reasons which will be explore in more detail on this course.
Safeguards for disabled children are essentially the same as for non-disabled children and should receive the same levels of protection from harm as all other children.
