Target Audience:

This course is open to staff who are likely to take part in child protection conferences and core groups.

Overview

This course follows on from the introduction to child protection and enables participants to gain specific knowledge and skills for attending child protection conferences and core groups.

Aims

This course aims to provide staff with the opportunity to focus in detail, on child protection conferences, core groups and "working together".

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this programme, participants will be able to:

• Identify the purpose and process of child protection conferences, core groups and child protection plans
• Demonstrate knowledge of how to prepare for participation in child protection conferences and core groups
• Understand and analyse the obstacles to "working together" and develop strategies to overcome them, with particular regard to issues of status, professional roles and anti-discriminatory practice

Approach:

The course is a combination of facilitator input, interactive discussion, case studies and exercises.
