Training
Programme
The
range of training programmes available in Gloucestershire reflects the
different learning needs of professionals relevant to their varying
levels of contact with children, and of responsibility for and
involvement in child protection work. Not all members of the same team
or the same professional group will require the same level of training.
This will be clearly set out in the individual agency Child
Protection Training Strategies, drawn up by each agency.Joint agency training for staff is a vital part of the child protection
process and ensures that preventing abuse takes a high profile.
This is possible through multi-disciplinary
training to raise awareness of the risk indicators which are known to
impact on a parents ability to care for their children in order to
identify problems at an early stage.

Staff must have attended
the GSCB Introduction to Child Protection course in order to attend the
other courses. There
is an expectation that on appointment all staff will receive Child
Protection awareness raising which will include knowledge of the GSCB Inter-agency procedure and contact details for further advice.
This will be through induction programmes, departmental meetings
or written information. Training should include definitions and indicators of abuse, thresholds
for intervention, the role of professionals and an explanation of the
child protection process and procedures plus useful contact numbers.

The
Annual Training Plan

See
section on Brochure, for the
2006/07 Training Plan or see
section on Courses for
a table of dates for 2007/08.

An
annual training programme is developed, based on the identified training
needs for each coming year. The
prioritisations of training needs are linked to the overall objectives
of the GSCB. In order to
identify training needs effectively, consultation to recognise deficits
in knowledge, skills and values takes place in each agency between
managers, practitioners. Issues
arising, whether these are lessons to be learnt from inquiries, new
national guidance or local practice concerns, are fed to the GSCB Training Sub Committee so that identified learning needs can be
addressed.
